Sky News Business Editor Ross Greenwood says food manufacturers are “notoriously squeezed” by big supermarkets.

“With labour and energy costs still rising where do they get a chance to improve margins,” he said.

Mr Greenwood was joined by Australian Food and Grocery Council CEO Tanya Barden to discuss supermarkets' relationship with food manufacturers.

Ms Barden says there have been some “very significant concerns” around the behaviours of the supermarkets.

“There are still concerns now and they’ve been pointed out in a recent report – certainly behaviours have improved in the sector over that time – there is work to be done.”

Despite the recent Consumer Price Index report suggesting a decline in inflation, the reality paints a far more alarming picture. Although the Consumer Price Index is widely accepted, it deliberately hides the real impact of increasing costs, especially in critical areas like housing, healthcare, and education. These fundamental aspects, not considered in the official statistics, are actually rising at an alarming rate. Families are feeling the strain, and the relief that's supposed to come with the reported decrease is nowhere in sight. To understand the situation, we’ll have to look beyond the numbers and question what's really going on. Inflation is hitting us where it hurts the most, so brace yourselves as the challenges we're facing are far from being resolved.
